Classed as one of the most beautiful
villages of France, Brousse-le-Château lies downstream and is within
walking distance (5km).
You can dine on the terrace of the local
restaurant while enjoying the magnificent view of the château. The
surrounding countryside is dotted with other châteaux, such as at
Montaigut, St Izaire and Coupiac.
Farther south lie the Templar fortress
towns of Sainte Eulalie-de-Cernon, St Jean d’Alcas and La
Couvertoirade.
Lying 60km to the west, Albi is well
known as a city of the Cathars and Albigeois (Albigensians) and is
famous for its cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec Museum.
Millau viaduct (60km to the east) is
literally one of the “high points” of modern architecture.
Micropolis, near Millau, is a recently
built visitor attraction dedicated to the world of insects.
Travelling on from Millau brings you to
the Gorges du Tarn where you’ll find caves, Montpellier-le-Vieux,
bizarre rock formations, and the Causses (lime plateaux) du Larzac.
